Miss Jessie’s Curly Meringue
It’s no secret to those who follow this blog that I have naturally curly hair. It took me years to finally figure out my hair, and I rarely stray from my routine. I have heard a lot of good things about Miss Jessie’s products, so when this came in my August Birchbox I was eager to try it.
Miss Jessie’s Curly Meringue is a styling product. It claims to have medium hold, and claims to fight frizz while giving you soft body and volume. This has a really fruity smell. It is strong, so if you don’t care for the smell this might bother you. I didn’t mind it, but it was strong. I could see there being days when I wouldn’t want the scent of my hair to compete with my perfume.
I used this as directed, on wet hair. I apply all of my stylers this way. I was hoping this would take me from 2 stylers (Curl Keeper and hair gel) to 1. Sadly, it didn’t. Even on wet hair this goes on kind of thick, and left my hair feeling kind of gummy. I tried using differing amounts, but in all instances I could still feel the gumminess.
As far as performance this was just not a match for my hair. I have read a lot of good reviews for this, but I think my curl type isn’t compatible. My hair looked like a combination of stringy and fluffy. When I used more for more control The ratio shifted to mostly stringy, and less resulted in mostly poofy. I got nowhere near the curl definition I am used to. Over the course of the day my hair became poofier until I had no real definition anymore.
Overall I just wasn’t happy with this. Keep in mind that curly hair products are like foundations and skin care, it can really vary from person to person. If I had to guess, I would say that women with a tighter curl pattern might fare better with this. You can get free samples from the Miss Jessie’s web site.
