L.A. Girl Gel Liner in Dark Brown

OK, so I love gel liners. I have quite a few, but at $3.99 I had to buy this one to try it out when I saw it at Rite Aid. I believe Rite Aid is the only store carrying it. I saw no other stores listed on the L.A. Girl web site. I normally go for the blackest black I can go for, but lately have been thinking maybe a dark brown for day time might suit me. Luckily there was one dark brown gel liner left, so I picked up it.

This comes with its own filbert cut synthetic brush. I actually really like the brush. It has a nice size handle (I personally don’t like when liner brushes are made with thin little spindly handles), and the bristles are stiff enough to offer me a lot of control but they don’t feel hard like I am dragging a stick across my eyelid. I was able to shape my liner exactly like I wanted with this brush.

The gel liner comes in a small glass pot with a plastic lid. You don’t get a lot of product (weight not listed on the pot, and I no longer have my packaging), but I didn’t expect to at this price point (especially with a brush included).

It has a very light, creamy consistency. However, I found that it isn’t pigmented like is claimed by the company. I had to go over my liner a few times to build up color. It would glide on, but then be barely noticeable. Once it was built up it was a nice, complimentary brown. Just the shade I had been looking for to wear as a day time, dramatic-ish without being too much liner.

Wear time was pretty poor on me. I tried it alone, and also over an eye primer. Nothing seemed to help (note: I do have oily lids, though other liners wear well on me so … ). I got about 2 to 3 hours of wear before I noticed fading, and after about 5 you almost couldn’t even see it on me.

Overall, just not impressed. I haven’t tried the other shades, so I don’t know if some colors perform better than others. Love the brush, and think they might want to consider releasing it alone.

Have you tried these, and how did you feel about them?

I haven’t tried these at all, but I have tried the wet n wild gels… still not 100% decided on those though, lol.

Maybe I’m just not a gel girl? I use them to tightline only, but everything else I prefer liquid or pencil.

I actually don’t like gel liners for tightlining. They usually fade quicker there. IMO they are best for cat eyes.

It looks really good on you – shame it doesn’t last long and takes a few coats to build it up.

Thanks, and yes it is a shame. Maybe they will reformulate it.

Wha!? It’s barely there! Too bad, Leticia, this looks to be a total fail :( I’m in the market for a gel liner, but this WON’T be the one I try!

Wow, that is really subtle! I had this same issue with the UD Ink for Eyes liners. They we super creamy but had zero pigmentation.

Never tried those. Guess I won’t lol.
