Hard Candy Black Tie Optional
I am reviewing this one first from the new Hard Candy nail polishes (see the full collections here), because it was the one I was most excited to try. It was hard to tell in the bottle if it is in a jelly base or not, but this is actually in a clear gloss. I would actually classify this as a confetti top coat. That’s not to say you can’t wear this as is, but my own preference is to wear it over a base color.
As soon as I realized this was more of a top coat, I knew what shade I wanted to try it over first. Dior Grege (review and swatches here). I love black and white with nudes. I happen to think this would look lovely over a mint green or pastel pink as well. Black and white go with so much!
The formula for this is nice. It wasn’t runny or thick and goopy. I never bought any of the older polishes, so I can’t compare them to see if there has been a change. The confetti bit requires a bit of patting versus just swiping it on, but I find that pretty common among a lot of these types of polishes and some glitters. It’s not that the pieces tried sticking to the brush, just to get them dispersed more evenly across the nail. I don’t find it to be a con, just something to note when it comes time to apply.
Overall, LOVE this polish. I think it will be one of the standout shades from the new collections.
And I really like the cute new bottles.
Hard Candy Black Tie Optional retails for around $4, and can be purchased exclusively at Walmart.
