Liu Collection Eye and Lip Calligraphy Palette
I have never purchased Guerlain makeup before, but because I am a crazy makeup nut my first foray into the brand was their expensive ($79!!) Liu Eye and Lip Calligraphy palette. I admit, I got suckered in by the promo photos and purchased it from Nordstrom as soon as I knew it was available.
Liu is a limited edition collection for holiday 2012, and the colors are gorgeous, classic holiday shades. On the left you have to bold lip colors. There are no names for them. At first I thought they looked similar in the pan, but after swatching it became clear the one on the left is a blue based, deep strawberry pink kind of red, and the shade on the right is a classic tomato red. They can be worn very lightly to be more sheer, or they can be worn more bold. I was surprised by the pigmentation, as I usually find these type of lip products in palettes to be super sheer and not at all buildable. The texture felt a bit thick, yet smooth. Hard to describe, but I like it.
There are 3 shimmer eye shadows down the center, and they are truly quite lovely. The top is a cream with an iridescent gold shimmer, and just the tiniest hint of glitter (not in your face, and I think most would find it wearable). Next is an orange with gold shimmer. I don’t think it is meant to be orange but more of a copper, but on me (yellow undertoned skin) it is orange. I happen to love it and orange shadows, and think this is a very safe orange to wear. Next is a gorgeous taupe. It too seems to have a subtle gold shimmer to it. Last is a powder liner that can be used dry or wet for a more intense look. The texture on all of these is very finely milled and smooth.
It has a very sizable inside mirror for travel, comes in a beautiful velvet pouch with Guerlain embossed on it, a double ended sponge tip applicator (if you ever use higher end palettes like Dior then you know their sponge tip applicators are actually quite nice), and a small natural hair brush. Both applicators are embossed with the name Guerlain (as is the front of the compact). The compact looks like it has a button opening, but it doesn’t. You simply lift the lid. I love the sexy black lacquered case, but do note it is finger print city.
Overall I do not regret this purchase at all. It is chic, the products perform to the cost (for me, as people’s opinions on cost vs performance can vary greatly), and it is total love for me. If you are looking to splurge on this I think you’ll be pleased.
Are you hoping santa brings you the Guerlain Liu Eye and Lip Calligraphy Palette for Christmas?
