Dotting Tool Manicure Tutorial
Ever since I had to chop my nails off (*sobs dramatically*) I have been trying to come up with some cute nail art to get me through my grow out phase. I really love using dotting tools. I bought a set for really cheap on eBay (see review and photos here), so these are not something that will break the bank to include in your nail arsenal.
This is one of those designs I have seen a lot of, and have no idea where it originated from. I like how simple yet cute it is. This can be done with any combination of colors you like. With longer nails I have done this as a rainbow going down the nail. This is also a great design for young girls, as they tend to have very short nails. You may need to use a finer tipped dotting tool the smaller the nail you are working with. I have done this with my daughter and she enjoys being able to pick out her color scheme.
You will need for this dotting tool manicure:
- Dotting tool, or anything with a small rounded end that can be used as a dotting tool
- Base color (I used Zoya America)
- Base dot color (I used Sally Hansen Hard as Nails in Black Heart)
- Top dot color (I used Sally Hansen Hard as Nails in Hard to Get)
See? You don’t need much. This is cheap and easy to do.
Step 1. Start by applying your base color.
Step 2. Apply your base dot color along the side of your nail from top to bottom.
Step 3. Apply the top dot color on top of your base dot color making slightly smaller dots. Use a smaller dotting tool if necessary.
Step 4. Wait 10 minutes for your design to dry and apply a shiny top coat. You’re done!
